Stranger Things Have Happened

Peace!!

A sunny rain and a baby that fell asleep all by herself on the floor.

Both never happen, but it's nice when they do, and even nicer when they coincide!!

1

Allegra turned one today! She has not been feeling well since yesterday, so she wasn't as jubilant as she normally is. But she was satisfied with her first gift of a little dolly, and would have played with her all night if everyone else hadn't encouraged her to open more presents. She loved the Happy Birthday song (sung to her all day by multiple children and mommy) and was very excited to eat all the icing off her cupcake.

Happy Birthday to my chunky monkey!!

Finding Farmers

We are about to put in an order to a local farm. Four years ago I would have never forseen this happening, we didn't even eat organic yet. But here we are, buying grain from one farm, beef from another, pork from another, chicken from another, and veggies, eggs, chicken and bread from another.  Before I realized Mr. M was sensitive to dairy, we even bought a share of a cow to get raw milk every week. What a difference a few years has made!

At first the idea of finding local farmers seemed daunting, but thankfully my husband did his research and I did mine. We would say, hey, did you see this? And show each other the farm or product they sold. Granted, this food is not cheap. We knew that going in to this way of eating. But as my friend says, "Anna, it's REAL food, that's why it costs so much." And in reality, the farmers are making a living by us buying their products. It's a win/win situation.  Not to even mention the health benefits of eating locally raised organic (or close to it) produce and grassfed meats. Our doctor asked my husband last time he was in if he was still our doctor because we almost never go.

Advice on finding local farmers? Dr. Google, ha ha, Facebook, you know, the usuals. Also just going to your local farmer's market and getting to know the farmers there would be a really good idea. If you have a desire to buy local but don't want to pay the extra money, look up your local CSA. (Crop Sharing Association) I am sure that we are getting the best bang for our buck with our CSA. I've compared what we pay at the local store for veggies vs. what we pay the CSA weekly and we get a lot more for a lot less.

If you are local to us and interested in any of the farms we utilize, just click on the links and have a look! Happy farm hunting!

Sophia found a Click bug drowning in the pool. She rescued it and played with it for several days. I looked it up to tell her the name, what it ate, and the most interesting fact that makes a clicking sounds when it jumps. She nursed it back to health, and then let it go before it died. ;)
